NORBERT ALVEA DUGAS
Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on December 17, 1937, he was the son of Norbert A. Dugas Sr. and Mamie Kay Dugas. In the 1950’s, Norbert and his father developed the Dugas Addition subdivision in Bridge City, Texas. After attending Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, he entered the United States Navy where he served as an electrician’s mate aboard the USS Providence (CLG–6), a Providence-class guided missile light cruiser. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he worked as an electrician at Bethlehem Shipyard at Beaumont, Brown & Root in Houston, and Warren Petroleum, Gulf, and Chevron in Mont Belvieu, Texas. He was a prolific conceptual designer and builder of dozens of houses, workshops, and other structures within southeast Texas. In retirement, he raised sugar cane and other vegetables and loved to watch auto racing. Most importantly, Norbert was a loving husband and a proud father who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothe,r Jack Dugas; sisters, Vivien Dugas Mayer and Marilyn Dugas Barker. He is survived by his wife, Nelda Dugas of Livingston, Texas; brother, Gene Dugas of Sulphur, Louisiana, children; Jason Dugas of New Iberia, Louisiana, Christine Dugas Barrile and husband, Frank, of Buffalo, New York, Norlene Dugas Garcia and husband, Richard of Angleton, Texas; and grandchildren Jillian Barrile and Nikki House.
