Her family moved to Houston when she was three years old. She was one of four children and their names all started with the letter J. Her brother Jerry and two sisters, JoAnn and Joyce whom she dearly loved. Jean was raised in the depression years and had a wonderful childhood. Later in her years she wrote all the memories down in stories and her granddaughter, Jenny Shepherd typed it up and had it printed for family members. Jean was baptized when she was twelve years old in the Church of Christ by Reverend Burton Coffman. After graduation from San Jacinto High School and Massey Business College, Jean went to work for Rountree Oldsmobile as a bookkeeper. Here she met her husband, Jesse Raymond Shepherd in 1949. Raymond was going to University of Houston and working half days at an insurance company. He was the manager of the Rountree fast pitch softball team. They were married by Dr. Kyle Yates at Second Baptist church in Houston, Texas on June 16, 1951. Jean was baptized by Dr. Yates and joined the church in 1952. Jean and Raymond had three children. Jesslyn, Ron, and Janie who were the joy of her life. Jean worked twelve years at Rountree Oldsmobile, twenty years at Southwest Volkswagon. They retired to a home they had built in 1986 on April 1,1988. Raymond was 65 and Jean was 59. Jean found a part time job at Moore-Henry Motors working for a wonderful gentleman, Joe Mac Henry. She worked there for nineteen years and ended her automobile career in 2009 at the age of 81. Jean and Raymond enjoyed 23 years of watching the beautiful sunset over Lake Livingston.
