Evelyn McLain, Wife, Mother, and loved one to many passed away on April 19, 2013 at the age of 67. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pieter and Ruth Mary Devaal younger sisters, Nancy Rhodes and Kathryn Payne. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Leonard McLain son Todd McLain grandchildren, Holden and Gillian McLain. Evelyn graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown in 1963, and later worked as a florist, before settling in Channelview, Texas and becoming an amazing stay at home mother. She later worked for Captain I.S. Derrick in Houston before retiring to Dennard, Arkansas and later to Onalaska. Evelyn had a natural passion and enthusiasm for life that fueled everything she did, whether it was cooking a great meal, taking on a new crafts project or helping a friend or family member in need. Her spectacular frontyard flowers and plants were always her artwork. She was just as passionate about animals, whether wild ones, her pets, or even neighborhood strays shed often help. She was politically active as well, especially fighting for clean, safe water and other environmental issues. A born nurturer and caretaker, she was the best friend you could hope for, an ideal grandmother and a second Mom to so many. Were proud of the life she led and thankful for how she taught us to love. Her wishes were to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Human Society of the US, the recipient of the last check she ever wrote.
