Doris Scheibal loved people visiting with them caring for them playing games, camping or worshiping with them ... whatever they wanted to do. At home, she lived about as simply as she could. But she was extravagant with her time and resources if it meant helping or being with others. She was born on September 25, 1924 in Ganado, Texas, to Frances Marie Kupka Stoermer and Alexander Stoermer the youngest of seven children. They moved to Victoria, Texas, and in 1943, she married Alvin William Scheibal, a prized mechanic, trainer and eventual U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sergeant. Doris and Al had three wonderful kids Jerry, Bill and Mary Ellen. As much as Doris Scheibal loved people, she didnt love anyone as much as her children. Though her five grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren made it close. Al and Doris were stationed in posts across the country and around the world. In 1961, they settled in Grand Prairie, Texas. Doris earned a library science degree from Texas Womans University, and she worked in the Grand Prairie library for several years. Her volunteer work and good grades turned up occasionally in the Grand Prairie Daily News. Al passed away in 1984. After about a year, Doris lit off to see the country on RV camping trips, often with groups such as Loners on Wheels. There isnt much of America she missed. For a while, her home base was Seguin, where she could be with her sister, nieces and nephews. About 20 years ago, she was visiting the Escapees camp outside Livingston. She liked it a lot. So she and a friend plunked down money for a mobile home there and thats where she stayed. The Escapees park had lots of people, so it was perfect for Doris. She volunteered at the CARE Center, working as though they were paying her. She went on walks and to linedancing classes. She sang in the choir at First Presbyterian Church of Livingston, where she also was treasurer of the Womens Ministry program. She did other volunteer work, too. She also traveled. There were camping trips around Texas with family. A cruise or trip to Europe here and there. A pilgrimage to see the Oberammergau Passion Play years earlier. You could start a conversation just by asking Doris where she was back from or where she was going. And she played cards and board games with friends nearly every day. On Feb. 21, she was calling Bingo for her friends and neighbors when she suddenly took ill. She passed away the next day. Doris Josephine Stoermer Scheibal loved people ... and they loved her back. She didnt drink and didnt curse, but she never judged those who did. She wasnt political, but she always voted. And she lived her faith the way a saint would. The world will miss her even as it counts the 89 yearsworth of blessings she brought to it. She was preceded in death by her mother Frances Marie Kupka Stoermer her father Alexander Stoermer her husband Alvin William Scheibal and her six siblings: Minnie Frances Ottis, Georgie Washington Fulk, James Maxwell Stoermer, Ida Leona Fanson, Irene Dorothy Atkins, and Julius Alexander Stoermer. She will be buried with her husband at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Shes survived by her children: Jerry Wayne Scheibal and his wife Marilyn, William Joseph Scheibal, and Mary Ellen Allen and her husband Gary her grandchildren: Stephen Scheibal and his wife Kathy Blackwell, David Scheibal, Brandon Allen and his wife Crystal, Angela Weaver and her husband Danny, and Kevin Allen her greatgrandchildren: Gabriel Scheibal, Carter Weaver, Hayes Weaver and Liam Allen a ton of nephews, nieces and cousins and countless friends. We all loved her very, very much.
