David Earl Porter was born on August 7, 1943 in Center, Texas and passed away in Lufkin, Texas on October 23, 2015 at the age of 72. He was a man of honor and integrity with a dry sense of humor. He was both loved and respected by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce; parents, Ray and Norma Porter, and sister, Reba.
He is survived by son, Clayton Porter and wife Jerri; daughters Laura Porter and Angel McCormack; brother, Greg Porter and wife Karla; sister, Jeannie Porter; and a cherished Grandpa to Maia McCormack, Lexus and Willie Hartt; an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews; and his faithful friend, Sam.
David was a military brat that traveled to Japan in 1953. As he grew older and began working, he would continue to travel the world. His first job was in Galena Park, Texas at Sheffield Steel. Then in 1966, he changed jobs and went to work at Humble Oil & Refining in Baytown, Texas. In 1976, the company changed names to Exxon. While working for Exxon, he was loaned, from 1980 to 1983, to Aramco where he took a position in Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia. David stayed with Exxon until 1984. Once retired from Exxon, he decided to become a business owner with the purchase of his favorite local bar, the Rambling Bushes, in Pasadena, Texas. Also, during this time, he traveled to various locations around the world as a consultant, including Curacao and Syria, until he finally stopped in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands to work for Hovensa in 1994. He retired with his wife, Joyce, to Livingston, Texas in 2003.
There will be a private family gathering to scatter David’s ashes with his wife’s, Joyce, at sea.
