Dorothy Loraine Cole (Farner) 1-2-1927 to 5-3-2016
Dorothy Cole went to be with her Lord on May 3, 2016 in Huntington, TX. Born in Peru, KS to Fred Teda Farner and Lucy Belle Farner (Kibler), her mother died when she was only 3 years old. She and her siblings lived a hard and disruptive childhood. They were sent to live with family members and hired out to work in neighbors' homes. She looked after her younger sister Mary, and worked in the fields. She left school in the 10th grade and later received her GED. She went to Wichita, KS to be a Rosie the Riveter. She met and married Willis L Cole, Jr. from Erie, Pennsylvania where he was drafted into the Army Air Corp and stationed at nearby Pratt Airfield. They moved to Dayton, Ohio at Wright Patterson Air Base, had another short stint in Wichita and then moved to St. Louis in 1947. In 1966, a move to Hurst, TX for Willis to work for Bell Helicopter kept them grounded until his retirement in 1984. They then designed and built their own home at Possum Kingdom Lake. They moved to Lake Conroe in 2000 and in Huntington TX on 1-1-12.
She was a homemaker with work at Famous-Barr and Striplings. She loved flowers and gardening. Willis and Dorothy were active in the Presbyterian Church, and she cooked and entertained. A breast cancer survivor, she had many difficult challenges to overcome in her life.
She leaves behind son David and wife Suzanne of Granbury, TX, son Raymond and wife Elaine of the Tampa, FL area, son Stanley and wife Glenda of North Richland Hills, and daughter Carol and her husband Jorge in Huntington, TX. She leaves 11 grandchildren and more than 18 great grandchildren. Our first love in life is our mother, and God has her in his loving arms now.
A celebration of their lives will be at First Presbyterian Church in Lufkin, TX. on May 20th at 11 a.m.
