Betty Jean Habernal
February 16, 1930 - November 27, 2015

Betty Jean Habernal (née Peterson) died peacefully at the nursing home on November 27, 2015 in Livingston, Texas at the age of 85 from advanced Alzheimer's disease.
Betty is survived by her children, Ramona Willis of Livingston, TX, Linda Milkowski of Portland Oreagon, David White of Texarkana, Arkansas and Brenda Lee White of San Antonio, Texas. She has eight grandchildren, Kimberly Marruffo, Crystal Wright, Michelle Momayezi, Daniella McClanahan, Stephanie Buckley, Kristina Komorowski, James Squire, Brooke Ellington and quite a number of great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Leanna and Axel Peterson, her sister Hazel Whited, brothers Melvin, Axel Glenn, Murl and Wayne, her husbands Melvin McClanahan, Ray White and A.J. Habernal.
Betty was born on February 16 in Absorokee, Montana to Leanna and Axel Peterson. She attended school at Nye Montana then changed to Columbus when the family moved. She married Melvin McClanahan and they had a daughter Ramona. She divorced and married Ray White and had three children, Linda, David and Brenda. She divorced and married A.J. Habernal whom she remained wed until his death in 2008. She said when he passed away, she didn't just lose her husband, she lost her best friend.
Betty was an artist and crafter at heart and she was always working on some art project or another. The front room in her house was an artist's dream with paints, sewing machines and tools with every nook and cranny stuffed with crafting materials. She was also a passionate gardener who could grow a prize winning lawn in the desert and refinish an antique dresser like a professional at the same time. The house inside was filled with plants as well as outside. She had a nurturing soul and was always raising and caring for some pet or another including pigeons, an iguana the size of a small child, rabbits, cats and a pink naked rat that AJ never knew about.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, December 12 at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Betty's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to Alzheimer's Association at http://www.alz.org/.
