Alan's Obituary Alan James Garmany, a longtime resident of Houston and Livingston, Texas, died on October 25 after a brief illness. He was born in Orlando, Florida to Mary C. Garmany and George P. Garmany, both of whom preceded him in death. During high school, the family moved to Laurel, Mississippi. He then attended Community College in Gulfport, Mississippi. Alan met Kathleen Frey Garmany, his wife of 48 years, while living on the Gulf Coast. Together they have one beloved son, John C. Garmany. He is also survived by two brothers, George (Beverly) and Robert {Maclovia) and grandchildren, Alexa, Adalyn and Adam Smoot. In 1972 he started his career in the concrete industry at Hercules Concrete Pumping Company in Houston. In 1978, a move to Colorado had him working for Richard O'Brien Concrete Pumping Company. In the early 1980's, Alan started his own business, Cactus Concrete Pumping Company. He later started a franchise in 1997 with CRC of Texas, establishing himself as a very successful businessman. In Houston, he was an active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. In retirement, they moved to Livingston, Texas where he was an active member of First United Methodist Church. He loved his volunteer work at church with Noah's Helpers. Alan was a generous, good-hearted man and he never met a person he didn't like. He loved traveling and spending time in nature, jokingly being called the Squirrel Whisperer and Yard Guy. His final days were spent in laughter, peace and a complete faith in his journey to heaven. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, 2801 U.S. Hwy 190, Livingston, Texas with a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held on a later date in New Orleans.
