James Norwood Self was born September 22, 1933, to William and Frankie (Harrell) Self in Cushing, Texas. James went to his heavenly home on July 18, 2024, at the age of 90.
James loved the Lord, he served as a lifelong board member at his church Charity Tabernacle, in Blanchard, Texas. James was a family man, spending time with those he loved gave him great joy. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye and the most cherished title he ever held was being "Paw" to his grandbabies. James was an avid outdoorsman; he had a passion for hunting and fishing; he spent a lot of his time running trot lines on Lake Livingston. It has been said that he could catch a fish on an unbated hook. James was a busy, loved man that was a pillar of his family, church and had a great love for God, Family and Country; he will be deeply missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing his love.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Betty Joy (Wade) Self; son, Wesley Self and wife Geraldine; daughter, Delinda Renfro and husband James; son-in-law, Billy Blalock; grandchildren, Jodie Suggs and husband Cody, Davey Hill and wife Sherry, Clint Renfro and wife Melissa, Ty Hill, Naomi Loper and husband Ronnie, Cynthia Self; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; as well as other family members and a host of friends.
James is preceded in death by his parents, five siblings and daughter Janet Blalock.
He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army.
Pallbearers: Clint Renfro, Cody Suggs, Bruce Wade, Roy Wade, Davey Hill, and Donnie Self.
Honorary Pallbearers: Ty Hill, Darrell Newman, Brian Newman, Ronnie Loper, Tom Bostwick, James Renfro, Billy Joe Blalock, Dwight Wade, and Dwayne Wade.
A Visitation for James will be held on from 1:00p- 2:00p, with a Celebration of life to begin at 2:00p, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Pace Funeral Home, in Livingston, Texas, with Pastor Richard Gray officiating.
Interment is to follow at Carlisle Cemetery, in Trinity, Texas.
In lieu of flowers Mr. Self request that you vote Donald Trump for president in 2024.
